Blue
Tenniel's original illustrations were done in simple black and white, but colored-in variations of the same artwork began to appear around 1890. Although not the first color given to Alice's dress, blue is preferred in today's variations.
One of the most recognizable elements of Alice's costume is her white pinafore, a garment worn by Victorian girls during the day to keep their dresses clean.
