Yellow
Tenniel chose yellow for his first coloration of Alice's dress. During this time period, garment construction became more complicated, and ribbons and frills were favored due to increased availability of sewing machines.
Beginning at age four, Victorian girls wore shorter versions of their mothers' garments. Little girls were spared corsets, but began wearing hoops and petticoats under their skirts when they reached four or five years of age.
